CRIG Doctoral Schools specialist course on 'Cancer' - 2025

 

CRIG organizes the 8th edition of the Doctoral Schools specialist course on ‘Cancer’, which has been recognized by the Ghent University Doctoral Schools. One of CRIG’s important aims is to educate young cancer researchers, and we believe this program is a great opportunity and added value for UGent PhD students involved in cancer research. Considering the fast evolving trends in cancer research, this specialized educational course, lectured by CRIG experts, can meet the needs of pre-doctoral cancer researchers with variable educational background and active in different cancer research disciplines.

 

Target audience & registration terms

The course is targeted to and open for Ghent University PhD students with different educational background, who are involved in cancer research, and are enrolled in the Doctoral Schools. This course is free of charge.

Format

As this course is open for PhD students with different educational background, we offer the participants the flexibility to choose from a set of 6 different modules (each of which covering various topics and speakers), resulting in a tailored educational package for each individual participant (see full program further)

  • Module I: Cancer biology  - Monday 27 January 2025 (13:15 - 17:30)
  • Module II: In vitro and in vivo cancer modeling  - Tuesday 18 February 2025 (13:15 - 17:30)
  • Module III: Technologies in cancer research  -  Tuesday 18 March 2025 (9:00 - 15:00)
  • Module IV: Cancer diagnosis and screening  -  Thursday 8 May 2025 (13:15 - 17:30)
  • Module V: Cancer therapeutics  -  Friday 6 June 2025 (9:00 - 16:00)
  • Module VI: OncoPoint symposium - Monday 31 March 2025 (full day)

Each participant needs a minimum of contact hours to meet the Doctoral Schools requirements.

  • Minimal requirement: participation to at least 4 modules
    (important remark: each module represents a separate, well-defined educational package and thus can be followed separately from the other modules)
  • Participants are allowed to follow all modules
  • At registration, each participant needs to indicate which modules he/she would like to follow

Each module will take place physically (classrooms/auditoria at UGent campuses) and the exact locations will be communicated later.

As described above, we offer 6 modules in the program: modules I-V consist of classes/presentations; module VI consists of the research symposium OncoPoint.

Module VI: CRIG's OncoPoint symposium (Monday 31 March 2025 at Sint-Pietersabdij in Gent)

OncoPoint is a yearly one-day symposium - organized by CRIG – in which fundamental, translational and clinical cancer researchers from UGent, UZ Gent and VIB-UGent are invited to present their work, meet each other, discuss and start new collaborations, with a mix of keynote speakers and selected abstract & poster presentations.
