Research focus
Our primary research focus are the development and validation prognostic and predictive biomarkers in cancer, especially in head and neck cancer, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer and renal cell cancer. By unraveling the TME and host immunity, we wish to gain insight in whom might benefit (most) and in whom ICI might be disadvantageous. This done by single-cell RNA analysis, site-seq of TME, multiplex IHC, PBMC characterization and ex-vivo stimulation. Furthermore, we want to describe the biology of “rare” adverse events related to cancer therapy (especially immunotherapy).
Biography
Michael Saerens graduated as a medical oncologist in 2021. He is involved in the treatment of head and neck cancer and skin cancer in the Ghent University Hospital.
