prof. Anne Vral (PhD)

CRIG group leader
Anne Vral

Principal investigator radiobiology group
Associate professor (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UGent)

Research focus

The main focus of the research team is in in the field of basic and medically applied (radiation diagnostics and radiotherapy) radiobiology, radiation protection, biological dosimetry and cancer. The topics related to cancer are dealing with radiosensitivity, the underlying DNA double strand break repair mechanisms (homologous recombination and non-homologous end-joining) and the link with cancer predisposition esp. breast cancer (BRCA1&2). The expertise covers a broad range of technologies used to study effects of radiation such as cytogenetic assays (microcnucleus assay, dicentric assay), cell culture techniques, immunohistochemistry, apoptosis, DNA repair foci assays, SNP analysis, western blotprotein expression, etc.
