Research focus

Our main research is in the field of basic and medically applied (radiation diagnostics and radiotherapy) radiobiology, and breast cancer. Breast cancer patients are often treated with standard radiotherapy (RT). Having an insight into the patient’s response towards ionizing radiation will aid in the development of more personalized radiotherapeutic schedules for cancer patients, thereby decreasing the risk for developing secondary tumors.
In our study, we aim to assess chromosomal radiosensitivity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of breast cancer patients before and after radiotherapy by the G0 cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay. The intra-and inter- individual variability and the suitability of the MN assay as biomarker of individual radiosensitivity was investigated.
