Successful funding for CRIG postdocs!
Each year several CRIG researchers apply for prestigious personal grants to be able to start or continue promising research. Important funding agencies for cancer research include among others ‘Research Foundation Flanders (FWO)’, ‘Foundation against Cancer (STK)’ and ‘Kom op tegen Kanker (KOTK)’.
As especially for postdoctoral mandates, the competition is high and the success rate low, the CRIG steering committee decided to organize test defenses to prepare our candidates for their official defense.
We are very proud to announce that this year, the CRIG postdoctoral candidates who defended their projects at ‘Research Foundation Flanders (FWO)’ and ‘Foundation against Cancer (STK)’ were very successful, and the following researchers all received funding for 4 years:
Dr. Marieke Lavaert (team Prof. Tom Taghon) (junior postdoc FWO)
Dr. Jonas Steenbrugge (junior postdoc FWO)
Dr. Simon Van Herck (junior postdoc FWO)
Dr. Annelies Coene (senior postdoc FWO)
Dr. Kaat Durinck (senior postdoc FWO)
Dr. Martijn Schuijs (senior postdoc FWO)
Dr. Inna Afonina (postdoctoral mandate fundamental research STK)
Dr. Ioanna Petta (postdoctoral mandate fundamental research STK)
Three of these researchers previously received a CRIG grant (Dr. Kaat Durinck – 1st call, Dr. Inna Afonina – 6th call & Dr. Ioanna Petta – 4th and 8th call), and four of them did a CRIG test defense. Therefore, we are convinced that both our grants as test defenses help increase the success rate of our researchers. Needless to say that we will continue both initiatives in the future.
Congratulations to all!
