Research projects from CRIG teams funded by FWO (results 2021)

FWO Vlaanderen published the results of the application round 2021 for research projects (‘junior’, ‘senior’ and ‘Kom op tegen Kanker’). An overview of all funded projects can be found on the website of FWO via this link. 

Congratulations to all CRIG researchers (from UGent, UZ Gent and VIB-UGent) that were awarded, for almost 3.5 million euro in total!

Junior:

  • prof. An Hendrix - 'Onderzoek naar de biologie en toepassing van bacteriële extracellulaire vesikels in de systemische circulatie van kankerpatiënten' (434 000 euro)
  • prof. Pieter Mestdagh (co-promotor dr. Eric de Bony) - 'Identificatie van karakteristieken typerend voor functionele lange niet-coderende RNAs door middel van seriële cellulaire en moleculaire  fenotypering' (501 000 euro)

Senior:

  • prof. Steven Goossens (co-promotor dr. Jules Meijerinck, Prinses Maxima NL) - 'Gericht uitschakelen van MEF2C in acute leukemie ' (448 500 euro)
  • prof. Steven Goossens - 'B1 cellen als oorsprong van mantelcellymfoom' (461 000 euro)
  • prof. Niek Sanders (co-promotor prof. Wim Ceelen) - 'Een zelf-replicerend mRNA gebaseerde combinatorische immunotherapie voor de behandeling van colorectale kanker' (397 000 euro)
  • prof. Peter Vandenabeele - 'Mechanismen van ferroptosis bemiddelde immunoregulatie' (520 000 euro)
  • prof. Kris Vleminckx - 'Onderzoek naar de rol en mechanisme van EZH2 in immuun checkpoint resistentie in tumoren met een geactiveerde Wnt/B-catenin signaalweg' (463 500 euro)

Kom op tegen Kanker:

  • prof. Lieve Brochez (co-promotors prof. Evelien Verhaeghe and dr. Isabelle Hoorens) - 'Optimalisatie van huidkankerscreening in de algemene bevolking: kan een op artificiële intelligentie gebaseerde smartphone-app helpen bij de preselectie van huidletsels voor dringend medisch advies?' (259 500 euro)
