Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine awards for Prof. Dmitri Krysko and Dr. Lieselot Hemeryck

The Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine (KAGB) is an institution of the Flemish community that advises the government and supports scientific research by awarding promising research. Six out of this year’s ten prizes were given to Ghent University researchers, of which two are cancer researchers at CRIG.

Dr. Lieselot Hemeryck was awarded the prize for veterinary medicine research for her doctoral thesis entitled ‘DNA adduct formation due to the gastrointestinal digestion of red meat’. Her work focuses on the mechanisms behind the correlation between eating red & processed meat and the risk of colorectal cancer.

Prof. Dmitri Krysko received the ‘GSK Vaccines prize’ for his innovative research in the field of immunology, which has contributed to a better understanding of immunogenic cell death and its importance for cancer treatment.
