Research focus
Current research focus:
Development and improvement of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry data analysis workflows for metabolomics, with an application focus on elucidating metabolic markers in childhood obesity.
Biography
Matthijs Vynck obtained a Master’s degree in Bio-engineering: Cell and Gene Biotechnology (Computational Biology major) in 2013, a Master’s degree in Statistical Data Analysis (Statistical Science major) in 2017 and a PhD degree in Statistical Data Analysis in 2018. Starting 2013, he worked as a PhD researcher and teaching assistant at the BioStat lab (Ghent University). His research focus was on digital PCR data analysis strategies, with case studies in oncology and cytogenetics. He co-taught several courses on biological data analysis, and provided statistical consultancy services to fellow life sciences researchers.
After obtaining his PhD in 2018, he took up a position as Bioinformatics/Biostatistics Scientist at General Hopsital AZ Sint-Jan, where he worked mainly on next-generation sequencing data analysis supporting the routine diagnosis, prognosis and therapy guidance of patients with hematological and solid tumors, and a research focus on molecular hematopoietic stem cell transplantation monitoring.
Starting 2022, he took up a post-doctoral position in digital PCR data analysis at Ghent University’s Digital PCR Center (DIGPCR), where his work focused on advancing data analysis methodology and applications for multiplexed digital PCR experiments.
In 2024 he joined the Laboratory of Integrative Metabolomics (LIMET) as a post-doctoral researcher in computational metabolomics, where he works on the development and improvement of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry data for metabolite detection and quantification.
