Seminar to inaugurate SmART+, the state-of-the-art preclinical radiation treatment system
Scope
Recently, a state-of-the-art platform for preclinical radiation treatment (SmART+) was acquired and installed in Ghent (with funding from 'Stichting tegen Kanker' in the context of the 2022 call for 'Advanced technology equipment', read more). The platform is installed at campus UZ Gent (Core ARTH Infinity, building The CORE), and available for interested research teams.
The SmART+ platform (Precision) is a state-of-the-art focal irradiation system that mimics clinical radiotherapy and imaging. It is a perfect X-ray irradiator to test novel and current treatments in combination with radiation (translational studies on radiotherapy/drugs/immunotherapy combinations) in preclinical models such as mice, rats, cells and patient-derived organoids. To inaugurate the platform, a seminar is organized - hosted by Prof. Ans Baeyens and Prof. Peter Vandenabeele - with presentations by different expert speakers and opportunities to network and start collaborations.
Program
- 14:00 - 14:05 Introduction
- 14:05 - 14:50 'A novel, radiotherapy actionable mechanism of resistance to CDK4/6 inhibitors in HR+ breast cancer' - Prof. Lorenzo Galluzi (Well Cornell Medical College, NY)
- 14:50 - 15:10 'Radiotherapy as a systemic immunomodulator, exploring the benefits of its combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors' - Morgane Cogels (HUB)
- 15:10 - 15:30 'Effects of X-irradiation on the blood-brain barrier: role of astrocytic vesicular transport and preliminary data on energy substrate delivery to brain cells' - Steffi Schumacher (UGent)
