Zebrafish Facility Ghent beschikbaar voor UGent gebruikers

CRIG

The zebrafish facility at the Center for Medical Genetics (Department Biomolecular Medicine, Ghent University Hospital) has recently been made available for Ghent University users.

The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is an increasingly popular vertebrate model organism which is widely used for the modeling of human disorders (including cancer), for toxicological studies and for compound screens. The zebrafish offers several advantages over other model organisms including a low cost, short reproductive cycle, external fertilization and development, production of large numbers of synchronous and rapidly developing embryos per mating and the optical transparency of zebrafish embryos, making it an excellent tool for high-throughput disease modeling - including cancer modeling. The availability of a wide range of molecular techniques such as CRISPR/Cas mediated genome mutagenesis, transgenic approaches and improved microscopic techniques, have also increased the power of zebrafish as a model organism.

The services that are offered include: housing and training in basic zebrafish techniques, generation of CRISPR mutants and morphants, genotyping, mating fish, sperm cryopreservation and customized projects.
