'Move for Lucas' raises 13.400 EUR to support cancer research at CRIG

On Sunday October 1st, ‘Move for Lucas’ brought together 338 walkers, cyclists and volunteers in an event to the benefit of cancer research. Aim of the ‘move’ was to reflect on the impact of cancer on the life of a patient, but also to spread a message of hope and to raise funding for cancer research.

Lucas, Medicine student at Ghent University, was confronted with leukemia before, and now wants to help others by supporting cancer research:

Kanker is voor iedereen en altijd een ingrijpende gebeurtenis. Je bent sowieso een patiënt voor een bepaalde tijd. Je leven staat even op stop. Voor mij is het dan noodzakelijk om je zo snel mogelijk weer mens te voelen in plaats van patiënt. Daarom ben ik ervan overtuigd dat kankeronderzoek nog steeds van levensbelang is. Het vergt veel tijd en middelen, maar via 'Move for Lucas' kunnen we CRIG helpen een stap verder te zetten in het noodzakelijke onderzoek.  De 'move' werd georganiseerd om even stil te staan wat voor impact een diagnose als kanker kan hebben op iemands leven, maar ook om geld in te zamelen voor het kankeronderzoek.

Together, more than 300 active participants walked or cycled 5872 km. A report of the day can be found in this compilation. Thanks to the many participants, volunteers and generous sponsors, the phenomenal amount of 13 400 EUR was raised to support cancer research at CRIG. All revenues will be used to support new and promising cancer research projects at CRIG.
