‘The Human Cell Atlas Initiative: A new era for medical research’ - Lecture (livestream)

‘The Human Cell Atlas Initiative: A new era for medical research’ is an 'Interdisciplinary Medical & Health Seminar', organized by the Scientific Research Committee and the departments of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

The Human Cell Atlas (HCA) is a global initiative that aims to create a reference atlas of the human body by mapping every cell. Having a reference atlas of the healthy human body will allow us to understand what has changed in disease and how we can reverse or ameliorate these pathological processes.
The Haniffa Lab is involved in the Human Developmental Cell Atlas (HDCA) initiative which aims to create a comprehensive reference map of cells during development. This will be critical to understanding normal organogenesis, the effect of mutations, environmental factors and infectious agents on human development, congenital and childhood disorders, and the cellular basis of ageing, cancer and regenerative medicine. Prof. Haniffa is one of the three coordinators of the Developmental Biological Network of the HCA.
