Day of Science (Dag van de Wetenschap) - 'op zoek naar verhalen in onze cellen'

On Sunday November 25th, the Day of Science (Dag van de Wetenschap) - in Dutch -  takes place! During this event, you get the chance to look behind the scenes of companies, universities, museums and research institutes.

The Center for Medical Genetics Ghent and CRIG also take part in this fascinating event. During a guided tour, you get to know the state-of-the-art technology used to investigate the genetic material of patients and uncover errors that may cause disease such as cancer. Multiple interactive activities enable young and old to discover the stories that hide in our cells. Everything will be explained in simple and understandable language.

Also CRIG will participate and organize a workshop for children (target audience 10-12 years) – ‘Kanker behandelen: (g)een kinderspel’ (same location, at the Center for Medical Genetics Ghent). The basic concepts of cancer and cancer treatment will be explained to small groups. Children will be able to learn interactively about cancer by discovering research lab items, seeing cancer cells through a microscope and playing games that help understanding how different treatment options work.
