Research focus

Acute leukemia is a highly prevalent cancer affecting both children and adults. While chemotherapy treatments demonstrate significant response rates, frontline radiation and chemotherapy unfortunately result in enduring cognitive issues and may even lead to the development of secondary cancers. Moreover, approximately one-fourth of children and half of adults diagnosed with acute leukemia encounter therapy resistance or experience a relapse post-treatment.

In the Ntziachristos group, our research is dedicated to T-cell Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (T-ALL). T-cell ALL constitutes 15% of pediatric ALL cases and 25% of ALL cases in adults. The existing therapy for T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL) is associated with considerable toxicity and resistance, emphasizing the urgent need for innovative and enhanced treatments. My research focuses on comprehending the molecular mechanisms underlying T-ALL, with the potential to offer insights for patients resistant to current therapies.

Biography

I completed my PhD in Molecular Biosciences at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2023. During my doctoral studies, I worked at the Functional Proteomics Laboratory of the National Center for Biotechnology (Madrid), where my research focused on the application of mass spectrometry-based proteomics to study the progression of liver pathologies, including cirrhosis, liver cancer and rare liver diseases.
