Research focus

The work of our research group lies at the intersection of nuclear medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, and molecular imaging. His team designs, synthesizes, and evaluates radioactive tracers that can be used to visualize biological processes in vivo and to deliver targeted radiation to diseased tissues. Key research areas include: 

  • Radiopharmaceutical development for PET and SPECT imaging.

  • Theranostics, combining diagnostic imaging with targeted radionuclide therapy.

  • Cancer imaging and treatment, particularly using prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeted agents and treatment of glioblastoma with targeted radionuclide therapy

  • Small-animal molecular imaging for preclinical research.

  • Development of novel radiolabelled compounds for studying inflammation, oncology, and other diseases. 
     

Biography

Filip De Vos graduated as a radiopharmacist at the UGent in 1989. From 1990 he worked at the laboratory of radiopharmacy and obtained a license as radiopharmacist.  He obtained a PhD on the carbon-11 labelling of antagonist for the central GABA receptor.  In 2000 he moved to the Nuclear Medicine Department of the UZ Gent as radiopharmacist.  He was involved in the development of radionuclide therapy with Bismuth-213 radiolabelled anti-CD20 mAb for treatment of CLL and Rhenium-188 for the treatment of HCC. Since 2005 he is the head of the laboratory of radiopharmacy.  The focus of his research shifted form development of 18F labelled radiopharmaceuticals into development of theranostics labelled with 89Zr – 177Lu – 188Re and 225Ac.  In collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine his research group developed AL18F-PSMA-11, a new radiopharmaceutical agent for the detecton of prostate cancer.
