Research focus

My PhD research focuses on longitudinal blood profiling to enable high-quality gene expression analysis. At OncoRNALab, we are developing a high-throughput platform for RNA retrieval from blood microsamples, a minimally invasive and convenient alternative to traditional blood collection. This approach is particularly beneficial for special populations, such as individuals with fragile health, mobility limitations, or chronic conditions, and is well-suited for large-scale studies. Longitudinal sampling provides a powerful means to track molecular changes within the same individuals over time, allowing us to study the impact of lifestyle, aging, and health transitions in a highly personalized manner. Our technology aims to advance precision medicine by capturing individual-specific variations and improving our understanding of health and disease trajectories.

Biography

I obtained a Master of Science in Biotechnology in 2020, at the University of Cordoba (Spain). With the advances of next generation sequencing technologies and Bioinformatics, I decided to follow the Master of Science in Bioinformatics at the UGent (2020). This led me to my first employment as an associate bioinformatic scientist.
Currently, I am full-time doctoral researcher at UGent willing to apply my knowledge on both bioinformatics and the wet-lab for cancer research.
