Mini symposium 'Systems Biology meets Medicine'

In this mini-symposium Prof Strömblad, an international expert on cancer cell imaging and Prof Mestdagh and Dr Impens, two -omics experts from within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences will cover different aspects of systems biology: proteomics, transcriptomics and imaging.

The aim is to provide a forum for new technologies, foster future interactions within the research community of the UGent Faculty of Medicine and create opportunities for international collaborations.

Three experts will demonstrate the potential of these technologies:

  • Prof. Strömblad (Karolinska Institute, Sweden):  Quantitative microscopy to study cell adhesion and migration
  • Prof. Mestdagh (Centre for Medical Genetics, Ghent University - CRIG group leader):  Cancer-specific RNAs as novel biomarkers and targets for therapy
  • Dr. Impens (Dept of Biochemistry, Ghent University and VIB Proteomics Core, VIB-UGent Centre for Medical Biotechnology, Ghent):  Proteomics technologies to study host- bacteria interactions
