dr. Benjamin Denoiseux (MD)

My research focuses on the Jaw-in-a-Day (JIAD) concept for patients with oral cancer who need major jaw reconstruction after tumour removal. Normally, rebuilding the jaw with bone from elsewhere in the body and later placing dental implants and teeth takes place over several separate operations, often more than a year apart, during which patients cannot chew normally. With JIAD, we combine the tumour removal, the jaw reconstruction, the placement of dental implants and a first set of fixed teeth into a single operation, using surgical guides that we design and 3D-print in-house. My work (REBUILD-S) studies how this affects patients' daily functioning and quality of life, and how the guides that make this possible perform under real clinical conditions, including after sterilisation.
 

Benjamin Denoiseux obtained his MD at the University of Antwerp (2015) and his DDS at KU Leuven (2018), followed by specialist training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (2018–2023) and a Head & Neck fellowship at Portsmouth University Hospitals NHS Trust, UK (2023). He holds the AO/IAOO Global Oral Cancer Course diploma (2025) and has been a consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at Ghent University Hospital since 2024. He is a member of the institutional Jaw-in-a-Day team and part of the founding team of Ghent University’s 3D Print Lab.
