Research focus

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) play a role in various hallmarks of cancer. Their expression pattern is often remarkably condition specific, suggesting that some may function as lineage survival oncogenes. As such, they can be exploited as targets for nucleic acid based therapy, avoiding on-target toxicity. Sequencing data for ncRNAs usually involves high noise and lower counts that tackle the performance of popular methods that were initially developed for differential gene expression analysis of mRNA.  We are working on developing the most appropriate and more powerfull statistical tool for differential gene expression analysis of ncRNA sequencing data.

Biography

I obtained a Master degree in Biostatistics (UHasselt, Sep 2015), and I have strted my doctoral fellow in statistical analysis of lncRNA sequencing data for cancer researches (Ugent, Feb 2016).
