Research focus

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a curative treatment option in patients with malignant and non-malignant hematological diseases. The introduction of reduced intensity conditioning (RIC) regimens and non-myeloablative (NMA) regimens as well as advances in donor selection and supportive care have led to a reduction in the treatment related  morbidity and mortality associated with allogeneic HSCT, allowing an increasing number of patients to benefit from this treatment. Improving the safety and efficacy of HSCT remains an important goal for transplant physicians. Optimising conditioning regimens and identifying factors improving disease control  and factors increasing transplant related toxicity offer the potential to improve overall patient care when undergoing allogeneic HSCT.
My research focusses on the use of Fludarabine in conditioning regimens prior to allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The aim is to further characterise the Fludarabine exposure in patients undergoing transplantation with Fludarabine with the ulitmate goal of defining and optimal exposure range to guide treatment.
With our research we hope to optimise patient management during their cell therapy based on the principle of precision medicine ensuring that all patients, regardless of comorbidities, can receive treatment that is both safe and effective.
