prof. Jan Philippé (MD, PhD)

Senior full professor (part-time)
Laboratory of Hematology, UZ Gent / UGent
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
Research focus
Our research is focused on leukemias, mainly optimization of diagnostic procedures (cytomorphology, immunophenotyping and molecular analyses), or optimization of follow-up procedures (ao. minimal residual disease monitoring). A main interest in the exploration of the leukemic stem cell and its role in acute myeloid leukemia and multi drug resistance.
Biography
As MD, I specialised in laboratory medicine in Ghent University and the free University of Brussels, supervising the laboratory of hematology. I have been teaching in Ghent University, and Rwanda National University. I have been board member of ISAC and president of the Belgian Society of Cytometry. I represent the Ghent University Hospital as affiliated center within EUROFLOW.
