My research topic is focused on the (radio)synthesis, in vitro and in vivo evaluation of new amino acid PET tracer for LAT1 imaging. LAT1 is a subtype of the system L amino acid transporter, which is overexpressed in many different malignancies. In many tumor types it is correlated with a poor prognosis.
We synthesize different phenylalanine derived compounds and make them suitable for 18F labeling. The uptake and affinity towards glioblastoma are studied through in vitro inhibition and affinity assays. In vivo, the tracers are tested in a glioblastoma rat model, radionecrosis model,… and are compared to 18F FDG, 18F FET,… The preclinical studies are being done at the INFINITY Lab where we use the µPET, µMRI, µCT and SARRP.
