IBiTech-bioMMeda is a research team primarily composed of researches with a background in (biomedical) engineering. Our core expertise is the experimental and computational study of the mechanics of biofluids, soft tissues and medical devices such as stents or heart valves. While most of our research relates to the cardiovascular system, our research expertise includes biotransport. It is within this context that we link with CRIG. One project involves the modelling of blood flow and mass transport in the human liver, which can be used to study targeted drug delivery using e.g. micto- or nanocarriers. Another project, in a close collaboration with prof. Wim Ceelen, focusses on the administration of drugs in peritoneal carcinomatosis, both in terms of delivery systems as well as the study of the convective and diffusive transport of drugs into tumours.
